of us have questions when it comes to surgery. Below we cover a few commonly
asked questions. Please contact our office if you have other questions or
concerns. What is an ambulatory surgery center? It is a facility where surgeries are performed without hospital admission. These centers offer a cost-effective, convenientand some say less stressfulalternative to hospitals. Some facilities dedicate themselves to a single specialty, while others offer a variety of specialties under one roof. How far in advance do I need to arrive for surgery? You will be instructed the day before your surgery as to what time you will need to arrive. It is generally about one hour before your scheduled operating room (OR) appointment time. Can I eat or drink prior to my surgery? If you are going to require anesthesia, you will not be allowed to eat or drink anything eight hours prior to your scheduled OR time. Will I be able to drive after surgery? If you are administered anesthesia you will not be able to operate a vehicle for 24 hours. What restrictions will I have? Restrictions are specific to the type of surgery you have and should be discussed with your surgeon. What kind of anesthesia will I receive and who administers it? An anesthesiologist will be the person administering your anesthesia. Options include general anesthesia, which induces sleep or epidural anesthesia, the numbing of the lower body.
